Karen Green, ‘Wine tourism News’
Langarm 2007: “A rustic blend with a combination of juicy black fruit and spicy, savoury flavours. This is a well priced wine that is certainly worth seeking out.”

Ingrid Motteux, ‘John Platter South African Wine Guide 2008′
“Lavender-perfumed … an intriguing pinotage-led blend … Oak & grape tannins add structure to youthful, fruity exuberance. Delightfully rustic. [Rated "good value".]

Cathy van Zyl, ‘grape’
“its nose and palate are interesting - there’s spice, savouriness, salty liquorice, black fruit and white pepper plus a dollop of refreshing acidity and decently dry finish.”

Jean-Pierre Rossouw, ‘Cape Times’
“great table wine, easy drinking but not simple and lovely for being dry without residual sweetness.”

Allan Mullins, ‘Taste’
Solms-Astor range: “The three ‘musical wines’ are like a breath of fresh air in our often-staid South African wine industry…. their joyous spirit and reasonable prices are guaranteed to get you dancing.”
“It is packed with ripe blackberry and plummy fruit and is soft, round and juicy with sweet, succulent tannins … the perfect accompaniment to the best of South African braais.”

Michael Fridjhon, ‘Business Day’
“Worth tracking down … an intriguing blend … This is not a wine for those frightened of a little rusticity, but it has the charm and weight to go with many a country casserole.”

Ludwig Maske, ‘The Franschhoek Tatler’
“The kind of red you can swig very comfortably between dances. This unpretentious flavourful blend … is very lightly wooded and not for laying down.”

Cathy Marston, ‘The Nose Wine Bar’
“made for easy drinking and early enjoyment, perfectly suited to winter….a lovely juicy wine, packed with character and interest.”

Diana Procter, ‘The Witness’
“With its sweet tannins and nutty undertones it can be enjoyed young.”

Tim James, ‘Noseweek’
“good value … highly recommended”

Sonja Burger, ‘Farmer’s Weekly’
“easy-drinking, approachable, dances to the eclectic tunes of six cultivars…”

Myrna Robins, ‘Saturday Weekend Argus The Good Weekend’
“a distinctly different dry blend.”

Neil Pendock, ‘Financial Mail’

Solms-Astor - Langarm

Langarm is a red blend of Pinotage, Touriga Nacional, Tannat, Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon and Primitivo. Blending Pinotage with these Southern European red varieties produces a classic ‘Cape blend’ with an innovative twist.

Traditionally pumped over, fermented at warm temperature for maximum fruit extraction, with no extended skin contact. Lightly wooded. It is dark red in colour, with sweet tannins and nutty undertones, and may therefore be enjoyed young (under screwcap).

Langarm (’straight-arm’) captures the mood of the Cape at the end of a long working week. It can be danced to just about any kind of music, but ‘Boeremusiek’ is definitely best. We dance it with our arms extended like melodramatic windsurfers. Outsiders find it comical, but that is only until they have tried it.
