Don Albert, ‘www.richmarksentinel.com’
“I would be happy to serve this at a lunch or braai. It’s not too sweet, it’s fresh and goes with anything. It has a happy festive taste about it. Obviously an excellent Summer wine to be served well chilled…. Seems like Cape Jazz Shiraz is here to stay, both as a music and a quaffing wine.”

Ingrid Motteux, ‘John Platter South African Wine Guide 2008′
“Charmingly soft, dry”.

Allan Mullins, ‘Taste’
Solms-Astor range: “The three ‘musical wines’ are like a breath of fresh air in our often-staid South African wine industry…. their joyous spirit and reasonable prices are guaranteed to get you dancing.”
“At last, a wine that embodies the uninhibited exuberance of la dolce vita … luscious party in a glass. A sparkling Shiraz that’s packed with cranberries, raspberries, cherries and the liveliest sparkle you’ll see this year. At a mere 9% alcohol you’ll have no excuse not to celebrate every day”

Michael Fridjhon, ‘Business Day’
“Perhaps the most interesting of all the Solms creations … give it a try: it’s beautifully made and will certainly reward those willing to let it age a few years in the bottle.”

Kim Maxwell, ‘Wineland/Wynland’
“…a surprisingly pleasant sweet carbonated sparkling wine….a hefty tannin structure and good acidity to counteract the sweetness.”

Cathy Marston, ‘The Nose Wine Bar’
“…it’s a decent price, has nice berry fruit and I think might go rather well with chocolate brownies.”

Greg Landman, ‘SA Country Life’
“Trust the winemakers at Solms to give Shiraz a cheeky pat on the bottom by producing this Lambrusco-style, sweet red charmer … A welcome break from tradition … and just the thing to chase away the blues. Great with oily foods, trifle, fruitcake and petit fours.”

Ludwig Maske, ‘The Franschhoek Tatler’
“A wine you can drink and drink plenty of. A lightly-styled yet very fruity wine with a light sparkle … refreshing stuff.”

Diana Procter, ‘The Witness’
“..all occasion sparkler. Pop the cork whenever you’re in a celebratory mood.”

Tim James, ‘Noseweek’
“a bit of a joke, but a good one”

Sonja Burger, ‘Farmer’s Weekly’
“easy-drinking, approachable, a Cape version of the Italian Lambrusco wines……traditionally light, young, sweet and effervescent.”

Neil Pendock, ‘Sunday Times’
“…this is no tipple for wine snobs. But how to rate a cultural weapon?”

Neil Pendock, ‘Financial Mail’
“authentic gem…..handcrafted for drinkability rather than wine show glory…real party wine.”

Neil Pendock, ‘Sunday Times Travel & Food, Wine Side Bar’
“a sweet, fizzy Shiraz that will be an instant hit at the Matric farewell after-parties … Served chilled to the bone, it’s a wonderful cherry fruit bomb and with an abstemious 9% alcohol level; you can drink it throughout the wedding reception.”

Cathy van Zyl, ‘grape’
“its 9% alcohol, 42 g/l residual sugar and gentle sparkle make it carefree, convivial and congenial: ideal for an impromptu braai on the last few days of a lackadaisical autumn.”

Neil Pendock, ‘The Times, Pendock Uncorked’
“For a “lekker” taste you can’t do much better than a glassful of [this,] shockingly delicious with 42 grams/litre of residual sugar well balanced by high acidity … it comes in at abstemious 9% alcohol”

Solms-Astor - Cape Jazz Shiraz

Cape Jazz Shiraz is a Pétillant red wine shiraz. To our knowledge, this is the first “Lambrusco” style wine to be made in the Cape: sweetish, low in alcohol, with celebratory fizz. It is bottled immediately after the harvest, especially for the annual Franschhoek Oefees (Harvest Festival) which is hosted by Solms-Delta. Serve chilled for all occasions!

Cape Jazz is Cape Town’s very own style of jazz, but it combines things from just about everywhere: the carnival, the church, Africa, America, reflected in the Cape Jazz Shiraz. The essence of Cape Jazz is unpredictability.

Bottled especially for the Franschhoek Oesfees at Solms-Delta, the name of the wine combines Richard Astor’s love of music with his dislike of pomposity. This lively, well-priced sweet sparkler is backed by the Solms-Delta reputation for quality.
