These fun, accessible and price-friendly wines were inspired by Solms-Delta’s involvement in reviving the traditional folk music of the Cape. All three wines reflect Solms’ partner Richard Astor’s love of music and his dislike of pomposity. Their simpler style is achieved with the use of undesiccated grapes.
The Solms-Astor wine range features traditional Cape wine blends including:
Langarm – Red Blend
A classic ‘Cape blend’ with a difference: Pinotage buttressed and tempered by Touriga nacional, Tannat, Grenache, Cabernet sauvignon and Primitivo (under screwcap).
Vastrap - White Blend
Traditional Cape white varietals – Chenin blanc, Clairette blanche and Semillon – blended to lay the benchmark for a white ‘Cape blend’ (under screwcap).
Cape Jazz Shiraz - Petillant
Sparkling Shiraz. A real party wine that brings a different twist to celebrations. It is light, sparkling, fruity and refreshing and low in alcohol. In Early 2010 it was recently named Best Sparkling Wine on show (and awarded a Double Gold medal) at the important WSWA show in Las Vegas. Made especially for the annual harvest festival (Franschhoek Oesfees), in a frothy, barely-fermented style (serve chilled for all occasions).
