Lekkerwijn 2010

An oak-matured blend of Shiraz, Mourvedre, Grenache and Viognier. A dry rosé, complex and full-bodied with intense fruit flavour and an elegant finish. Alluring deep salmon colour. This wine is not a by-product of bleeding of grapes for red-wine concentration, but is made from grapes specifically selected for the production of a rosé of the highest quality.

The two red components were harvested at full ripeness and gently pressed. The wine was fermented in second and third year French barrels, the lees was stirred regularly to allow the solids to enhance the complexity of the wine and stabilise the colour. The Viognier was fermented separately and added to the blend prior to bottling, to add elegance and a fresh component to this stylish wine.

Lekkerwijn is the name of the farm adjoining adjoining Delta. Its first owner, Henri l'Ecrevent, was granted the property in 1690. Locals, unable to pronounce his name, solved the problem by dubbing him Arie Lekkerwijn. He was slain nine years later by the first owner of Delta, Hans Silberbach, who then took flight and was never seen again. With this wine, we hope that l'Ecrevent will accept our apology.
