Hiervandaan 2007
A classic Rhône-style blend of Shiraz, Mourvedre, Grenache, Carignan and Viognier, with a twist: a portion (18%) of the Shiraz was desiccated on the vine. Only the skins of the Viognier were used, fermented till dry and left in the dark for three weeks. Matured for 13 months in mostly new French oak. Dark colour, intense flavours, dried orange peel aromas. Great food wine with ageing potential.

Hiervandaan (meaning 'from this place') is a word with special significance in the colonial history of the Cape. It was used by early European settlers to define their new identity: 'Ons is hiervandaan, ons is Afrikaners.' ('We are from this place, we are Africans.')
