Cape Jazz Shiraz
Slightly sweet, this petillant (lightly sparkling) wine is the Cape’s improvised fusion of Italy’s Lambrusco with Australia’s sparkling shiraz. We use early-harvested Shiraz grapes because we want fresh acidity and low alcohol (this one only has 9.5%). Fermentation is slow, with a touch of wood, and the bubbles amplify the wine’s berry flavours. Served chilled.

Cape Jazz is Cape Town’s very own style of jazz, but it combines things from just about everywhere: the carnival, the church, Africa, America. The essence of Cape Jazz is unpredictability.
Lekkerwijn 2010
An oak-matured blend of Shiraz, Mourvedre, Grenache and Viognier. A dry rosé, complex and full-bodied with intense fruit flavour and an elegant finish. Alluring deep salmon colour. This wine is not a by-product of bleeding of grapes for red-wine concentration, but is made from grapes specifically selected for the production of a rosé of the highest quality.
The two red components were harvested at full ripeness and gently pressed. The wine was fermented in second and third year French barrels, the lees was stirred regularly to allow the solids to enhance the complexity of the wine and stabilise the colour. The Viognier was fermented separately and added to the blend prior to bottling, to add elegance and a fresh component to this stylish wine.

Lekkerwijn is the name of the farm adjoining adjoining Delta. Its first owner, Henri l'Ecrevent, was granted the property in 1690. Locals, unable to pronounce his name, solved the problem by dubbing him Arie Lekkerwijn. He was slain nine years later by the first owner of Delta, Hans Silberbach, who then took flight and was never seen again. With this wine, we hope that l'Ecrevent will accept our apology.
Amalie 2010
This golden, aromatic blend of Viognier, Grenache blanc and Roussanne is “the real deal”. Classic in every respect, it’s barrel-fermented, with intense fruit, layers of complexity and a lingering finish. Grenache blanc was desiccated to give a concentrated component to this intense Rhone style white blend, the Roussanne and Viognier was picked fully ripe. The grapes were given skin contact over-night to extract maximum flavours from the skin. The fermentation happened in oak barrels. Golden-rich, aromatic and fruity wine, with lingering complexity and well-integrated tannic structure. This is a very remarkable white wine made in a red wine style.

Amalie van Solms played an important part in Dutch national life in the mid 17th century. Her grandson William of Orange contributed financially to the resettlement of the French Huguenots that settled in the valley around Solms-Delta in the late 17th century, and established the wine industry there (Franschhoek).
Vastrap 2010
For this easy-drinking Cape white blend, the winemaker selected traditional South African grape varieties – Chenin blanc, Semillon and Riesling – to make a wine with a level of complexity that contradicts its price tag. As lively as the folk music after which it is named, Vastrap is a well-balanced white blend for all occasions. It has a people-friendly 13% alcohol and food-friendly fullness in the mouth.

Vastrap (trample) music unites Khoesan trance-dance with Dutch folk music. Played on anything: concertinas, home-made violins, banjos and ‘blik-kitaars’ (guitars made using empty oil tins). The traditional excuse for a Vastrap party was the compacting of a newly laid cow-dung floor, but the ancestors are said to have preferred the open air.
Hiervandaan 2007
A classic Rhône-style blend of Shiraz, Mourvedre, Grenache, Carignan and Viognier, with a twist: a portion (18%) of the Shiraz was desiccated on the vine. Only the skins of the Viognier were used, fermented till dry and left in the dark for three weeks. Matured for 13 months in mostly new French oak. Dark colour, intense flavours, dried orange peel aromas. Great food wine with ageing potential.

Hiervandaan (meaning 'from this place') is a word with special significance in the colonial history of the Cape. It was used by early European settlers to define their new identity: 'Ons is hiervandaan, ons is Afrikaners.' ('We are from this place, we are Africans.')
Langarm 2011
An innovative red Cape blend, mainly Pinotage, blended with various Southern European varieties. This wine is about as diverse as the people of the Cape, with spicy, exotic flavours and a clean, dry finish.

Pinotage, Touriga Nacional, Tannat, Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon and Primitivo.
Langarm ('straight-arm' dance) captures the mood of the Cape at the end of a long working week. It can be danced to just about any kind of music, but 'Boeremusiek' is definitely best. We dance it with our arms extended like melodramatic windsurfers. Outsiders find it comical, but that is only until they have tried it.
Gemoedsrus 2010
A dark black fortified shiraz, with raisin and toasted almond aromas on the nose, dark bitter chocolate on the pallet, with a medium sweetness and well rounded finish. An innovative new approach to fortified wine; not a traditional Port. Shiraz grapes were desiccated on the vine and allowed to dehydrate until 40% of the moisture evaporated. The residues of the same desiccated shiraz bunches were distilled to produce a husk spirit (‘Grappa’). This was used to fortify the wine. Wood matured for three months, to retain the primary fruit aromas, in mostly new French oak (from the forests of Allier).

This wine is a tribute to our late great musician-in-residence, Alex van Heerden (1974-2009). In a brief whirlwind of generosity he passed the precious legacy of Cape music into our hands and hearts. ‘Gemoedsrus’ (‘peace of mind’) was the title track of his last album, released just a few weeks after his tragic death. Today the composer of Gemoedsrus, Les Javan, still continues Alex’s work at Solms-Delta, which now boasts over 60 resident farm-worker musicians.
Koloni 2010
In a new 500ml bottle, you can drink this surprisingly dry Muscat wine by itself or before or after dinner. It has a good structure, intense aromas, judicious oak, and a lingering finish. A blend of Muscat d’Alexandrie (64%) and Muscat de Frontignan – Muscadel (36%). The grapes were desiccated on the vine, pressed as whole bunches, fermented after settling and matured for ten months in seasoned French oak. This is a truly unique ‘meditation wine’.
