Basketball Update
On the 9th of September, the Solms-Delta High School Basketball team played a match against the Bridges Academy “B ” Team. Once again our guys showed great spirit and determination. Despite the fact that we only had 5 players so they each had to play the full 40 minutes, we still managed to win 54-20 against the Bridges team! Well done to Justin and Bertrum (who are in primary school), Shane Boonzaier (in highschool), Elton and Donavan.

Cook Franschhoek
Following a very successful run in June, Cook Franschhoek (Summer Edition) will run from 7-9 October 2011. Fyndraai’s contribution to this will be a demonstration by Chef Shaun Schoeman on how to make a crusty smoked trout starter and two main courses, Karoo Lamb ribs with wild herbs, and creamy vegetable risotto. He will also introduce participants to the best wine pairing ideas for these dishes. Once your taste-buds have been tickled it will be time to dine on these dishes, and end your meal with a rooibos, coconut, lemon and honey-flavoured dessert. (To view the detailed menu click here.) Chef Shaun is an expert at blending indigenous plants and flavours to suit contemporary tastes. Now you too can learn how to do this. Only 30 people will be able to attend so you are assured of an interesting experience with fellow foodies and the most creative chef we know!
Cost: R250. Date: Saturday 8th October. Time: 12h00

AFRICANA 2005 & GEMOEDSRUS 2010
Following rave reviews – both local and international – of our flagship wine, Africana, we held some of the 2005 vintage back to release when it was matured further. It is now on sale but there is very limited stock. Africana is an extraordinarily rich wine, deep concentrated and tannic, with smoky oak flavours. Shiraz grapes were desiccated on the vine and, after harvest, fermented as whole bunches with the stalks. Available for R385. Click here to read more about it.
After quickly selling out of our 2009 release of Gemoedsrus – its many fans will be delighted to see the 2010 is now on shelf! This is a dark black fortified Shiraz, with raisin and toasted almond aromas, dark bitter chocolate on the palate, medium sweetness and awell rounded finish. An innovative approach to fortified wine; not a traditional Port. Shiraz grapes were desiccated on the vine and allowed to dehydrate until 40% of the moisture evaporated. Grappa was used to fortify the wine. R250 with gift cylinder and R220 without. For more information click here.
Both wines are available at the estate or order through our eShop (free delivery within South Africa).
